Centre for Contemporary Cultural Studies

The Birmingham Centre for Contemporary Cultural Studies was founded in 1964 by Richard Hoggart, with Stuart Hall becoming Director in 1968. It gained world-renown in the development of the new field of cultural studies. Among those associated with the Centre were Paul Willis, Paul Gilroy, Richard Johnson, Sadie Plant, Janice Winship, Chas Critcher, Tony Jefferson and Jon Clarke. The Centre closed in 1991 and a new Department of Cultural Studies and Sociology formed. It was closed by the University in 2002; a new Department of Sociology opened in 2004.

CCCS Publications - Stencilled Papers by CCCS

Remaining copies of the old series of Stencilled Papers from the Centre for Contemporary Cultural Studies are still being sold, but in some cases we are down to 3 or 4 copies and must photocopy to produce further copies.

In view of labour costs and of postage we have therefore revised the prices of the whole series. Of the 5 new price codes, Y and Z represent longer papers which will now have to be photocopied. All prices include postage in the UK, which we pay ourselves. There are reduced rates for students and unemployed people.
